Rachel was raised in Hancock Park, a treelined neighborhood south of West Hollywood in Los Angeles, California. Her parents are Montreal natives, and she is lucky enough to hold dual citizenship. Ever since high school, when she was Editor-in-Chief of her high school’s newspaper LACES Untied, Rachel has had a passion for writing.
In 2006 Rachel moved 3,000 miles across the country to attend Northeastern University. Despite the cold, she spent five years falling in love with Boston and Northeastern. After graduation, she spent a sixth year in Boston working two jobs. She worked full time as a website editor and content contributor for TechTarget, an IT media company that runs more than 100 technology-focused websites, and part time as a nightlife blogger for the Boston Globe’s Boston.com.
Anxious to abandon the cold climate, Rachel began dreaming of traveling the world. The stars aligned in June of 2012 and she quit both of her jobs, put her life into storage and flew to the southern hemisphere. She spent two months hiking, photographing and blogging her way through Chile, Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, and Bolivia. She’d had the trip of a lifetime, and her penchant for travel left her itching for more even after she returned to the States. After 3 months back in the U.S. working and saving, she decided to head south of the equator once again.
During her five years at Northeastern, through three full-time internships, dozens of university courses, and contributing to on-campus publications, Rachel’s passion for writing stuck. Whether she was blogging about fashion, illuminating LGBTQ issues as a freelance writer for Bay Windows, researching and interviewing experts about pricing on cloud storage models, or piecing together nightlife suggestions in Boston’s South End,
Rachel has been lucky enough to try her hand at a variety of reporting across a wide range of multimedia platforms. Rachel has also worked as an editor, filling the role of Campus Coordinator and co-founder of the Northeastern branch of Her Campus. While at TechTarget, she oversaw freelance staff, managed an editorial calendar, and was responsible for copy editing all content she published to the Cloud Storage site. Though her passion will always be writing, Rachel found herself truly enjoying the opportunity to wear various editorial hats.
Rachel loves meandering through foreign neighborhoods with her DSLR, hiking the Hollywood hills with her golden retriever, brunching with friends on Sunday mornings, and bargain shopping at flea markets. Obsessed with maxi dresses, Mexican food, and bold jewelry, rarely does a day go by that she doesn’t wear some shade of turquoise.
This blog will be dedicated to Rachel’s life travels & adventures.
Nice blog. After 6 weeks in South America, how come you still love mexican food?
Good luck!
